Over time, your skin will lose its full, firm, youthful appearance. This is the result of our natural aging process: your skin is damaged, becomes thinner, or loses its natural elasticity - becoming loose and wrinkled.  Fat tissue, which also helps to fill out your face, is lost, causing skin to sag and further wrinkle. With Sculptra™, you can restore facial contours and get rid of lines and wrinkles without surgery.  Sculptra™ is a synthetic, injectable material that contains skin-smoothing microparticles to help lift and smooth sagging skin, severe wrinkles, creases, dark circles, and scars. 

Dr. Berkowitz has been trained to use the correct technique for Sculptra - and has the skill and more than 10 years of experience performing cosmetic injections.  To truly enhance your appearance with the LIQUID FACELIFT, you must trust your face to an expert… such as Dr.  Mark Berkowitz.

At your first treatment session, it may appear that Sculptra™ worked immediately because of the swelling from the injections and the water used to dilute Sculptra™. Within a few days, as the swelling goes down and the water is absorbed by your body you may look as you did before your treatment.  Sculptra™ takes time to work; results should be noticeable after approximately 6 weeks. Dr. Berkowitz will see you again a few weeks later for a second treatment - and will decide if you need additional Sculptra™ treatment.

The most common side effects with the use of Sculptra™ include injection-related side effects at the site of injection such as bleeding, tenderness or pain, redness, bruising, or swelling. These effects generally resolve on their own in 2-6 days. 

One possible delayed side effect with Sculptra™ can be the formation of small bumps under the skin in the treated area. These small bumps may not be visible, and you may notice them only when you press on the treated skin.  These bumps tend to form within the first 6 to 12 months after the first treatment. Occasionally, these bumps go away by themselves. Visible bumps, sometimes with redness or color change to the treated area, have also been reported.

As with all injections you may feel some discomfort. It may be that you notice a brief burning sensation at the injection site. An ice pack applied after the treatment will help to calm your skin. If necessary, we can apply a topical or provide a local anesthetic.

Dr. Berkowitz will give you special aftercare instructions. These will include 5-5-5 - which means the treated areas of your face must be massaged FIVE minutes at a time FIVE times per day for FIVE days after each treatment.  Inform us if any side effects occur, such as inflammation or small bumps in the treated area.
