Probably no advance in medicine has had more of an impact than the development of laser surgery.  Lasers work by emitting powerful beams of light.  As new, living cells replace layers of dead skin cells (caused by laser treatment) the skin tightens and grows back smoother - possibly even wrinkle-free.

Advantages of laser surgery include:

• Less risky anesthesia - patient comfort during a laser procedure usually does not require general anesthesia or even deep sedation
• Minimal risk - because the most common surgical risks such as infection from incisions or blood loss are eliminated during laser procedures, risks to a patient’s overall well-being are minimized.

Additionally, lasers are effective for treating a wide-range of conditions, including:

• Sun-damaged skin
• Mild acne scarring
• Age spots and skin discolorations
• Facial scars
• Wrinkles 
• Other conditions that respond well to laser surgery include treating spider and/or varicose veins, hair removal, and tattoo removal.

Recovery times and limitations on daily activities vary depending on the type of laser used to accomplish each patient’s desired outcome.  Some treatments require many visits but have little recovery time following each session.  While more aggressive laser procedures may require a full week of recovery and may leave the treated skin red for several months.
