| Laser resurfacing is a powerful tool for the treatment of skin-related signs of aging, including moderate to deep wrinkles, crepe-like skin, uneven pigment, large pores, and even some scars. Beautiful, peaches-and-cream skin is often revealed following a laser procedure - though there are many procedures available and results will vary.
SO MANY OPTIONS - HOW DO YOU CHOOSE?!?!?
Current laser peel options include:
- CO2 Laser Resurfacing - a long time favorite of Dr. Berkowitz, who has used the CO2 Laser for more than a decade. Results are phenomenal but are not readily apparent and rosy skin is likely to follow for up to 12 weeks. This type of laser peel is performed in an operating room under IV sedation. Patience proves critically important for patients - but the results are always worth the often frustrating recovery period. Dr. Berkowitz and his staff have a great deal of experience and are always modifying the recovery protocol to improve patient comfort and length of recovery. This is the gold standard in laser peels - and if you want incredible results, this is the procedure.
- Fractional Laser Resurfacing (like FRAXEL) - this newer treatment option, first introduced by Reliant as FRAXEL, is fabulous for sun damaged skin. This procedure uses an invisible laser beam that is strongly absorbed by water in the skin, in order to reverse the effects of skin aging and scarring. Several treatments may be recommended and many patients will request oral sedation so you will need a driver.
- Ablative Fractional Laser Resurfacing (like ACTIVE FX) - the newest laser peel, MIXTO, was just introduced in 2006, greatly reduces the discomfort associated with FRAXEL-like procedures without decreasing its efficacy. Topical numbing and oral sedatives are not necessary for patient comfort.
- MIXTO offers a unique advantage because it allows Dr. Berkowitz to vary the treatment intervals to increase its tolerability. Fractional Laser Resurfacing can be used on the face, neck, chest, arms, and hands to reduce visible sun damage and signs of photo aging.
